Here palo santo is paired with rose: one hexagonal box of HEM incense sticks from the Palo Santo Masala series. The black box has pink details and reads “Palo Santo Rose” on the side. It is made in India, and you get one box.
Rose on a woody base
Rose smells floral and sweet. In this stick it is blended with the woody, slightly sweet scent of palo santo, so you notice the wood as well as the flower. If plain rose incense feels a little too much for you, this pairing is worth a try. And if you grow roses, a rose stick is a small reminder of summer in the winter months.
The flower of love
Across many traditions the rose stands for love, and in Christian tradition it is also the flower of Mary. People often light a rose stick on an anniversary, after a dinner together or in the bedroom. It also makes a sweet gift, tucked in with a bunch of flowers or a handwritten letter, as the box is slim and light.
Lavender is the other floral version of the Palo Santo Masala series in our shop. If you already know the rose, it is worth trying too, while lovers of spicy scents may prefer the cinnamon.
Before you light it
Have an incense holder or a small bowl of sand ready, as the ash will fall. Light the tip and blow out the flame after a few seconds. Stay nearby while it burns, and put it out before you leave the house. In a small room one stick is enough.
Put an opened box back in the drawer, somewhere dry.
