This is HEM’s incense called Kamasutra. The hexagonal box, about 25 cm long, is warm red and orange, with figures that look like a carved relief on its upper part; the name is spelled “Kaamasutra” on it. They are made in India. You get one box, without a holder.
Named after an ancient Indian book
The Kama Sutra was written in Sanskrit by Vatsyayana more than one and a half thousand years ago. Besides physical love, it gives advice on relationships, running a household and the daily life of a cultured person. The work lists sixty-four arts a cultured person should master, and the blending of perfumes is one of them. HEM’s name points to this work.
For an evening for two
Its scent is distinctive and different from classic floral and woody incense. Light it on an anniversary or after a dinner together, when you talk instead of watching television. If you prefer very understated scents, the White Musk is the better choice.
The colourful box makes a nice gift for a couple, even without wrapping. Together with a pair of candles it becomes a small, complete present for a name day or Valentine’s Day.
Burning the stick
The bare end of the stick goes into the holder; then light the tip. After a few seconds blow out the flame, and it will smoulder slowly. Stay in the room while it burns and let in some fresh air. Before bed, press the glowing end into sand or a heat-resistant bowl. Keep children and pets away from the smoke, and don’t leave it burning when you go out.
