An instrument you cannot play wrong
The handpan has become one of the best-loved melodic instruments of recent years: a lens-shaped metal body with tone fields arranged across its surface. This nine-note version is tuned so that it contains only notes that match each other - in whatever order you strike them with your fingers, the result is always a pleasing, harmonious melody. That is exactly why beginners without any musical background can play it with confidence.
About the D minor Kurd tuning
Kurd is one of the most popular handpan tunings: soft and slightly wistful, yet melodic. The deep D sits in the centre of the instrument, surrounded by the notes A, A#, C, D, E, F, G and A. The sound is clear and long-sustaining - in the maker's fitting words, as if it were ringing in the space of a cathedral.
Not only for making music
The handpan holds its own as a percussion instrument, but thanks to its gentle, calming voice it is often used to accompany meditation, in sound therapy sessions and at relaxation events. If you like to quiet down in the evening, a few minutes of free playing on this instrument can do more than you might expect.
What is in the package
The instrument comes with a cotton pouch, a carrying backpack and a protective cover, so you can transport and store it safely. Weighing about 4.4 kg, it rests comfortably on an adult player's lap or on a stand. The tone fields are carefully tuned by hand, and this instrument family is made in a Colombian workshop.
