Two mushrooms rise from a shared wooden base, one taller than the other. They were carved by hand in Indonesia, and the base is parasite wood. The piece is about 22 cm tall, stands on roughly 8 × 9 cm and weighs about 200 g. You receive one carving with both mushrooms.
One tall, one short
The taller mushroom gives the piece its height, and the shorter one beside it balances the shape. There are no other figures, no animals or flowers, only the two mushrooms and the wood. That plainness suits a pared-back room with little furniture, and it fits a woodland corner next to dried flowers just as well. Among a few acorns and dry leaves, it also makes a pretty autumn table piece.
Knots you can feel
Here the base is parasite wood, cut from a plant that grows on another tree and lives off it. Its grain, curves and rough surface were left as they were, and you can feel the knots when you run a finger over it. As these change from piece to piece, the base of yours will not look exactly like the one in the photos.
Where the two mushrooms fit
In autumn many people bring home a mossy twig or a pine cone from the woods and set it beside their books. This carving sits well with them, or on its own at the end of a row of books. If you are after a gift for someone who loves mushrooms or the woods, it is a modest but kind choice. For a bigger spot, the series also has a four-mushroom version about 23 cm tall.
Keep the raw wood out of damp rooms such as the bathroom, and dust it with a soft brush. Heat from a radiator can dry it out too, so keep it away from one.
