Hand-Carved Parasite Wood Art – Four Mushrooms

A sculptural piece with four hand-carved mushrooms of different heights on a parasite wood base from Indonesia, about 23 cm tall.

Four hand-carved mushrooms stand on a parasite wood base, each at a different height. Stem lengths and cap shapes vary too, which gives the piece movement and a sculptural feel. It was made in Indonesia, is about 23 cm tall, has a base of roughly 14 × 11 cm and weighs about 250 g. You receive one carving with all four mushrooms.

For spots that need some height

Being one of the tallest pieces in the series, it works best where an object needs height, on a sideboard, a chest of drawers or at the end of a row of books. Potted plants, wicker baskets and pottery make good company for it. In autumn you can set it in the middle of the table with a small ornamental gourd and a few pine cones. At about 23 cm, it is a little taller than the short side of an A4 sheet. It is light, so you can move it around whenever you like.

Smooth stems on a raw base

Each stem is carved smooth, while the base was left raw, so its rough, knotty surface shows clearly. Parasite wood belongs to a plant that grows on another tree and lives off it, and it grows irregularly. Every base therefore has its own shape, and yours will differ slightly from the photos.

Big sister to the two-mushroom carving

Alongside it in the same series is a two-mushroom carving, about 22 cm tall and slimmer. This four-mushroom piece is wider and fuller, so it holds its own on a larger piece of furniture. Set side by side, the two make a good pair, or you can place them at either end of a bookshelf.

A soft brush is enough for dusting. Keep it out of damp places, and away from radiators and strong sun, which dry the wood.
