Hand-Carved Parasite Wood Art – Dolphins at Play

A dolphin pair carved by hand on a naturally shaped parasite wood base from Indonesia. About 9 cm tall, each one slightly different.

Two dolphins curve above a naturally shaped wooden base, as if caught for a moment in mid-swim. They were carved by hand in Indonesia from parasite wood. The piece is about 9 cm tall and needs roughly 12 × 12 cm of space. You receive one carving with both dolphins on it.

Smooth dolphins, rough base

Both dolphins are carved smooth, with long, soft lines. Below them the base stays rough and knotty, because the carver left it as the wood grew. Parasite wood belongs to a plant that grows on another tree and feeds off it, and it grows twisted and irregular. Run a finger over it and you will feel the difference between the smooth bodies and the knotty base.

The wood shapes the base

Every base has its own curve, grain and colour, so no two pieces match. If you order this carving, your two dolphins will follow the same design, but the base may look a little different from the photos.

For those who love the sea

Dolphins usually live in groups and often leap out of the water, and this carved pair has the same playful look. Put it beside a seashell, a beach photo or a piece of blue pottery, or keep it on a desk or bookshelf. At about 9 cm tall, it also fits on a bedside table next to the lamp.

A kind gift for anyone fond of the sea and its dolphins. Wood does not like rain or damp, so keep it indoors somewhere dry, and dust it with a soft, dry brush. A windowsill above a radiator is not a good spot either, as the heat dries the wood.
