This carving holds a small woodland scene. A bird perches at the top, mushrooms grow below it, and a bee flies between them. It was carved by hand in Indonesia, and the base is raw parasite wood. The piece is about 18 cm tall, yet it only needs roughly 11 × 9 cm of space, and it weighs about 200 g. You receive one carving.
Bird above, mushrooms below
Built upwards, the scene is taller than most of the animal figures in this series, yet it stands on a small base. It suits a desk, a narrow wall shelf or a windowsill, and sits well next to dried flowers, pine cones or a favourite stone. Its height of about 18 cm is roughly the length of an adult hand.
A scene fitted to a rough base
Underneath, the base is parasite wood, the wood of a plant that lives on another tree and feeds off it. It grows knotty and irregular. The carver fits the smooth bird, mushrooms and bee to that rough base, so shape, grain and surface vary from piece to piece. Expect yours to differ a little from the photos.
A woodland walk indoors
On a slow autumn walk you can spot mushrooms at the foot of the trees and birds in the branches above. This little carving brings that picture indoors. If you enjoy walks like that, or know someone who does, this carving makes a good gift. The series has other woodland pieces too, such as carvings with two or four mushrooms. Dust it with a soft brush, keep it away from water, and do not put it above a radiator, as the heat dries the wood.
