In this Zen lamp, rough, pale pink rose quartz pieces run all the way round the inner rim of the black metal ring. Its ring is 18 cm wide with an open centre, so the wall behind it shows through. The lamp stands on a round metal base; it is 20.5 cm tall, 10 cm deep and weighs about 0.6 kg.
Rose quartz, the stone of love
Rose quartz is the pink variety of quartz. It is said to be the stone of love and tenderness, so many people give it to a partner, a mother or a close friend.
Its box reads Body. The other two lamps in the Zen series are Mind and Spirit, and Spirit is made with amethyst. Zen lamps have no selenite sign; only the rough stones run round the ring.
Warm light, a peachy glow
Switched on, the rim gives a warm, yellowish LED light, and the pale pink of the rose quartz turns peachy. It suits a bedroom, a dressing table or a spot next to family photos. Its light is too soft for reading and is meant for a gentle evening glow.

Looking after rose quartz
Strong sun can fade rose quartz over time, so keep it away from a sunny window. Unplug the cable first, then dust it with a soft, dry brush.
The lamp runs from USB, from a computer or a USB wall charger. A switch on the cable saves you from pulling the plug each time. Natural stones vary, so colour and shape differ a little from lamp to lamp.
