Of the four elements, this Halo lamp stands for earth. Rough green aventurine pieces sit along the inner rim of the black metal ring, and a sign made of selenite bars fills the middle. Its ring is 18 cm wide, the lamp is 20.5 cm tall, the round base is 10 cm deep, and it weighs about 0.7 kg. LED light makes the rim glow.
The sign of earth: a crossed triangle pointing down
Earth, in the old alchemical signs, is a triangle pointing down with a horizontal line across it. Water uses the same triangle, only without the line.
Aventurine, the stone of chance
The name aventurine comes from the Italian “a ventura”, meaning by chance. It was first used for a glittering glass discovered by accident in 18th-century Italy, and the stone was later named after that glass. Its green colour comes from tiny flakes of a glittery mineral, so in bright light the stone shimmers faintly. It is said to be a stone of good luck.
Earth shines with a white light that makes the green stones look fresh and spring-like. If you keep houseplants, it looks at home among them, as well as in a corner with green walls or on a living room shelf.
Keeping it in good shape
The lamp runs from a USB cable, so a computer, a USB wall charger or a power strip with USB sockets will do. There is a switch on the cable. Selenite is soft and does not like water, so dust it only with a dry brush, with the cable unplugged.
Natural stones vary a little in colour and shape from lamp to lamp. If you set several lamps from the series side by side, the four signs of the elements look good together.
