The Halo lamp is a black metal ring standing on a round metal base. Its ring is 18 cm wide, the whole lamp is 20.5 cm tall and the base is 10 cm deep. Rough, see-through quartz pieces sit along the inner rim, and three white selenite bars cross the middle. Switch it on and the rim lights up with LED light that shines through the stones.
The old sign of air, in selenite
Together, the three bars draw the alchemical sign for air: a triangle pointing upwards, crossed by a horizontal line. Long ago, alchemists marked each of the four elements with a triangle of its own. Fire, water and earth each have their own lamp in this series as well.
Clear quartz and moonlit selenite
The box says “Clear Quartz”, the colourless, transparent quartz also called rock crystal. Crystal lovers see it as the stone of clear thinking. Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek word for the moon, because of its silky, pearly sheen.
This model shines with white light, which shows off the water-clear stones best. If you like light, uncluttered colours, this is the one to pick from the four elements.
Power from your computer's USB port
The lamp runs from a USB cable. Plug it into a computer, a USB wall charger or a power strip with USB sockets, and use the rocker switch on the cable to turn it on and off. That makes it easy to place on a desk with no free socket nearby.
Each lamp is made with natural stones, so colour and shape vary slightly from one to the next. Selenite is soft and water damages it, so simply unplug the lamp and dust it with a soft, dry brush.
