An unusual, herbal fragrance
Arruda — known in English as rue — is a green, slightly bitter herb traditionally associated with cleansing and protection in Latin American practice. Blended with natural copal resin in this masala incense, it gives a fresh, herbal smoke that stands apart from sweeter floral or woody scents.
Hand-rolled in India
The sticks are produced in India using the traditional masala method: natural herbs, woods and resins are mixed into a paste and hand-rolled around a thin bamboo core. This gives a slow, even burn and a fuller fragrance than dipped sticks. Slight differences in colour and thickness are part of the handmade character.
How you might use it
Light a stick at the start of a cleansing ritual, when airing a room after a long day, or simply to bring a fresh herbal note into the home. The fragrance is more sharply green than floral incenses, so it suits people who prefer a clearer, less sweet scent.
How to light
- Place the stick in a holder that catches falling ash
- Light the tip, let it flame briefly, then blow out
- Let the ember smoulder and release fragrant smoke
- Use in a well-ventilated room
