The elephant-headed little friend
Ganesh is one of the most beloved Hindu deities: his distinctive elephant head is instantly recognisable. Indian craftsmen hand-cast this mini statuette in brass, just 3 centimetres tall. The fine workmanship is surprising on such a small piece: the headdress, the curve of the trunk and Ganesh's round, calm-shaped body are all clearly visible.
The tradition behind the figure
According to tradition, Ganesh is the god of knowledge and wisdom, and the remover of obstacles. In Indian families it is customary to pray to him when beginning something new: before a new job, when moving home, or on the first day of the school year. Many people bring this little statuette home not for religious reasons but as a cultural object – a reminder that “getting started” is always a bit easier when you approach it with a touch of cheerfulness.
Where might it belong?
At only 3 centimetres tall, it fits almost anywhere: the corner of a desk, the edge of a bookshelf, the dashboard of a car, the pocket of a bag. Many keep it on a small home altar alongside other divine figures (Vishnu, Krishna, Green Tara, Saraswati) – this series is ideal for that, since it consists of statuettes in similar sizes and styles.
What do you receive?
A single brass Ganesh statuette, finely hand-cast, in a colourful fabric bag. The bag is technically just packaging, but it makes a lovely little gift wrap if you wish to pass it on to someone.
Small care tips
Brass darkens naturally over the years. To restore the golden glow, polish gently with a soft cotton cloth and a drop of brass polish. If you prefer the “lived-in” patina, you don't have to do anything – it grows more beautiful and softer in colour each year.
