Frame Drum – Ø 50 cm, Goatskin, without Wooden Cross

A 50 cm frame drum with goatskin on a seven-ply beech frame. Open-backed version without a holding cross, with ten tuning screws.

Fifty centimetres, open back

This frame drum measures 50 cm in diameter (approx. 20 inches) and is deliberately built without a holding cross. The back of the drum stays completely free, so you can sound the skin from both sides and shape the tone by opening and covering the aperture with your palm. That freedom is exactly why many players choose the cross-free version.

A goatskin head on a beech shell

A carefully selected goatskin is stretched over a seven-ply glued beech frame 8 cm high. This construction gives the Natural range its signature: a clean, natural, overtone-rich voice with no plastic-like side noise. Towards the rim the tone brightens, while the centre of the head stays full and resonant.

Ten tuning screws with key included

The 10 screws set into the frame let you set the skin tension precisely, and the tuning key is supplied. Natural skin gives or tightens slightly depending on humidity, so it is worth going around the screws before playing - that way the instrument always speaks at the pitch you want.

How to hold it

Without a cross you hold the drum by the rim, or with your thumb hooked into the frame. This grip feels lighter and allows quicker hand changes, and it is comfortable when seated with the drum on your lap. If you play standing for long periods and want a firmer support, the version with a wooden cross may suit you better.
