Forty centimetres - light and handy
At 40 cm in diameter (approx. 16 inches) this is the easiest instrument to handle in the Natural family. It suits younger players, smaller hands, and anyone who wants to drum standing for a long time. The smaller head gives a slightly higher, tighter tone than its bigger siblings, so the rhythm comes through clearly and is easy to follow.
Goatskin on a beech frame
A carefully selected goatskin is stretched over a beech frame 8 cm high. The natural materials give a clean, warm and overtone-rich voice. Near the rim you get a short, snappy sound; in the centre of the head a full, round fundamental.
Eight tuning screws and a key
The 8 screws built into the frame let you set the tension of the skin, and the tuning key is supplied. Natural skin moves with the humidity, so it is a good habit to run around the screws before playing and bring them to an even tension.
A first instrument and a teaching tool
The wooden cross keeps the drum securely in your hand, which makes it well suited to teaching, music therapy and workshops with children. Its lighter weight also makes it comfortable to pass from hand to hand in a circle. If you are just getting to know frame drums, this is the size to start with.
