An unusually large bowl that you can also use with your feet
This singing bowl is exceptionally large: about fifty centimetres in diameter, and quite weighty at around ten kilograms. The size is exactly right for you to place both feet inside comfortably while seated on a stable chair, or even to step into it carefully on a soft surface. The bowl therefore offers you not only an auditory but also a tactile sound experience.
The interior engraving: Buddha's feet and the seven chakras
If you look inside, you will find a delicate engraving of Buddha's footprint at the bottom of the bowl, surrounded by the seven chakra symbols. The engraving was made by hand, so each piece shows a unique pattern. These ancient Indian motifs add a subtle texture to the surface without affecting the sound of the bowl.
The exterior surface: flower of life and eight symbols
On the outside the geometric pattern of the flower of life runs around the bowl, accompanied by the eight auspicious symbols of the Buddhist tradition. Along the rim you can read the traditional mantra OM MANI PADME HUM, one of the central texts of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The engraving sinks gently into the metal and is also tangible to the touch.
How to play its sound
The bowl is played with an accompanying wooden or leather-bound mallet: either by leading it around the rim or by tapping it gently. It produces a deep, sustained fundamental tone enriched with the fine vibration typical of hand-made metal. During a seated session, you slowly guide the mallet around the rim while your feet rest inside the bowl.
Size, weight and origin
The bowl is about fifty centimetres in diameter and weighs around ten kilograms. Because it is hand-made, the diameter may vary by a few centimetres and the pitch may differ from piece to piece. The bowl is made in Nepal using traditional forging methods.
