A polished fluorite, whose translucent bands shifting from green to purple are calmingly beautiful in themselves.
What fluorite is
Fluorite is a calcium-fluoride mineral that occurs across a wide range of colours – most often green, purple and blue, frequently banded within a single stone. Its hardness is 4 on the Mohs scale, so it is relatively soft; polished, it has a glassy, translucent sheen. Some pieces glow strikingly under UV light (the source of the word fluorescence).
In tradition
Fluorite is regarded as a stone of stability and emotional balance; tradition links it with harmony between head and heart, and with the heart chakra. Many see it as a support for clear thinking and ordered thoughts.
A natural product – each piece is unique
Tumbled (polished, rounded) stones are made from natural mineral, so the size, shade and pattern vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photo. A typical stone is about 1.5–3.5 cm, with a smooth surface that sits easily in the hand. Fluorite is a relatively soft stone, so it is worth keeping it apart from other stones to avoid scratches.
Use and care
Many hold it in the palm during meditation or quiet reflection; others keep it in a favourite corner, on the desk or in a bag. The polished stone can be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth.
