A deep-blue lapis lazuli sphere speckled with golden glints, about 4 cm across, cut from carefully polished A-grade stone. A weighty, richly coloured piece that fills the space in a meditation corner, on a desk or in a feng shui arrangement at home. (Stand not included.)
Lapis lazuli, the deep-blue stone
Lapis lazuli is a deep-blue rock built mainly from lazurite, often enlivened by golden flecks of pyrite and threads of white calcite. Its historic source is Afghanistan, and Renaissance painters ground it into the precious ultramarine pigment. In tradition it is known as a stone of truth and wisdom, linked to the throat chakra and to honest self-expression.
Why a sphere?
A spherical cut scatters light evenly and brings out the golden glints across the blue surface. The round form evokes wholeness, which is why it is a favourite focal point in meditation and in feng-shui-minded spaces.
Properties and size
The sphere is cut from polished natural lapis lazuli and measures about 4 cm across. As a genuine mineral, the depth of blue, the proportion of pyrite and the calcite veining vary from piece to piece – every sphere is unique.
How it is used
Many hold it as a focal point in meditation, while others set it on a shelf or desk as an accent. A stand or a small dish keeps it in place.
Care
Lapis lazuli is a relatively soft stone, so protect it from knocks and harsh chemicals. A soft, barely damp cloth is enough to clean it; prolonged soaking in water is best avoided.
