The Amrita symbol at the end of the string
In the Indian tradition Amrita is the nectar of immortality, the fine heavenly drink which the old teachings say belonged to the gods. This 20 centimetre crystal string recalls it in its own way: the closing larger crystal evokes a drop of the nectar, while the seven small octagonal crystals above it stand for the colours of the seven main chakras. If you are also drawn to the Indian tradition, this piece is a quiet bridge between the two worlds.
Light, movement, mood
Hang it in a sunny window so the crystals catch the light freely. The octagonal cut surfaces break the sunbeam apart, and small rainbow dots show up on the wall, the curtain and the floor. When a breeze stirs it, these dots also start to move, and for a while the room feels as if lights were slowly wandering across it on a summer morning by a stream.
Simple chakra background
The seven small crystals stand for the seven main chakra colours: the red of the root, the orange of the sacral, the yellow of the solar plexus, the green of the heart, the blue of the throat, the indigo of the brow and the purple of the crown. Like many Chinese teachings, feng shui draws freely from Indian thought, which is why you find this colour scale in this hanging too. You may approach it from an emotional or simply an aesthetic side.
Size, weight, material
The string is 20 centimetres long and weighs only 72 grams, so on most windows even a curtain rod can hold it easily. Material: cut glass crystal and a metal hanger, with crystals tied by a fine cord. It arrives in a decorative blue cardboard gift box. Country of origin: China. Because of the light weight you may also hang it on a bathroom window, as long as the air there is not moist.
What to avoid and how to care for it
Wipe the crystals once a month with a soft dry microfibre cloth. Do not put it under running water, as the metal hanger may discolour. For longer storage the gift box is perfect. Do not use chemical cleaners, window sprays or alcohol on the cut surfaces, as they can dull them.
