Shungite's deep, coal-black colour and matte sheen are at once understated and remarkable – a stone that carries the early history of the Earth.
About shungite
Shungite is a black, coal-like rock more than two billion years old; its structure lies between the amorphous and the crystalline, and it is marked by a high carbon content (type II, 50–90% carbon). It is mined in Karelia, Russia, where it has also been used for centuries to purify water. Tradition regards it as a stone of protection, and many wear it as a symbol of stepping back from electronic noise and the glow of screens.
Good to know
The pendant is a tumbled, drilled shape of around 3 cm and arrives without a cord, so it can be threaded onto any chain or leather strand. As a natural stone, each shape and surface is unique.
Care
Wipe with a soft cloth. Shungite's matte surface does not like prolonged moisture, so it is best removed before showering.
