What a dowsing rod is and what it is used for

How to hold the rods – the ready position
Hold the rods firmly but not too tightly: your index finger should be about 2 centimetres from the top of the handle. Take one rod in each hand and bend your arms at 90 degrees. Hold the rods pointing away from your body, parallel to the ground. If you bring your arms close to your body and rest your elbows against your waist, the rods will be more stable.
Determining the "found" position
Before you start searching, decide whether the rods should cross each other (forming an X) or open out into a horizontal line when they find what you were looking for. This is your own personal "found" signal, worth clarifying before use. This way you receive a clear sign when the rods respond.
