Double-Point Pendulum – Quartz and Amethyst

A clear double-pointed quartz with a purple amethyst sphere on silver-tone fittings and a long chain, about 25 cm overall.

This pendulum carries two stones: a clear quartz crystal pointed at both ends and a small purple amethyst sphere. The fittings and the long chain are silver-tone. It is about 25 cm long including the chain and was made in India. Each order contains one pendulum.

Light shines through the quartz, while the amethyst is a deep purple, so the two colours stand apart clearly. Its name comes from the Greek “amethystos”, meaning “not drunk”. The ancient Greeks believed that drinking from an amethyst cup kept a person sober.

Today amethyst is traditionally seen as a stone of stillness, and clear quartz as a stone of clarity.

How to hold the chain

Hold the end of the chain between your thumb and forefinger, rest your elbow on the table and wait until the pendulum hangs still. Then silently ask a simple question that can be answered with yes or no, and watch which way the stone begins to move.

The pointed tip makes the direction of the swing easy to follow. Use your first session to find out which movement means yes for you and which means no, then stick to it.

A quiet room and a seat at a table make it easiest. A draught or a fan can set the chain moving, so close the window before you ask.

If the colour differs from the photo

Both stones are natural minerals, so colour and inner markings vary from piece to piece. On yours, the amethyst may be lighter or darker than in the picture.

Amethyst can fade if it sits in bright sun for weeks. After use, keep the pendulum in a drawer or a small box with the chain loosely coiled so it does not tangle.
