The grounding C-tone
The 1st chakra, Muladhara, is traditionally connected to the feeling of stability and safety. The corresponding C-tone produces a deep, full vibration that you do not only hear with your ears but also feel gently in your body, especially in your feet and lower back. This bowl is made of pure quartz powder, with a 432 Hz fundamental frequency, and a red lotus motif on the outside accompanies the sound, so even looking at it can bring a deeper, calmer breath.
Package and accessories
The 20 centimetre, 1530 gram bowl comes with a mallet and a rubber stability ring. The rubber ring holds the bowl steady on a smooth table or carpet and helps to bring out its most beautiful, longest sustaining sound. Different mallet materials – rubber, leather or felt – bring out differently coloured tones, so if you like to fine-tune the experience, it is worth trying several.
How to use it in daily life
Many people turn playing the C-tone bowl into a rhythm of their evening quieting: they sit on a carpet, sound the bowl and let the vibration move through their body with a few slow breaths. Others sound it in the morning before leaving, so a calm, grounding moment is built into the tasks of the day. It also works beautifully as a companion to breathing exercises, stretching or prayer.
Playing and handling
Place the bowl on the rubber ring on a stable surface. Lead the mallet around the outer edge with circular, even movements, slowly and with gentle pressure at first. As the sound builds you may speed up, but the pressure should always remain kind. A difference of a few hertz from the stated pitch is completely normal and is not a quality fault.
Safety and care
Never place anyone's head over the bowl, and do not strike it too loudly directly next to another person's ear. When using several bowls together, leave a comfortable distance between them. Never use a wooden mallet, as it may damage the crystal surface. After use, wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store in a dry, dust-free place, away from direct sunlight.
