Crimson Sweet watermelon is the true family-sized classic. Long-season, high-yielding outdoor variety. The fruit is round, averaging 8–10 kg — a single melon can serve a whole party. Light green rind with dark green stripes. The flesh is sweet, juicy, bright red.
Growing
Sow in April into seed trays; transplant in mid-May to a warm, sunny spot. Allow 1.5 metres between plants — the long vines take up a lot of space.
The watermelon ripens in August. Due to the large size, it's worth cutting into slices or pieces and storing in the fridge. The classic refreshment for hot summer afternoons.
