This 60 × 60 cm cover is the large square version of the Waves pattern. Across the front run overlapping arcs in mustard, orange, beige and darker shades. On a surface this size the pattern repeats many times, so the wave movement shows clearly.
Rather than being printed, the pattern was woven on a jacquard loom. On the back is plain, natural-coloured fabric with a zip along one edge. The cover weighs 0.44 kg and was made in India. You get one cover, with no cushion pad inside.
A back cushion for the sofa
A cushion this big belongs against the back of the sofa. If your sofa is deep, it lets you sit further forward without piling several small cushions behind you.
Together with the long one
In the product photo it stands with the 30 × 50 cm Waves cover, the square one behind and the long one in front. Both sizes share the same pattern; more arcs fit on the bigger one.
With a 60 × 60 cm cushion pad
A 60 × 60 cm inner cushion is what it needs. If you want to use it on the floor as a seat cushion, choose a firmer, flatter pad.
A pattern made on the loom
Jacquard weaving is named after Joseph Marie Jacquard, a French weaver. In the early 1800s he built a loom on which punched cards decide which lengthwise thread is lifted. That is how even the intricate arcs of these waves can be woven into the cloth.
Roll the large cushion pad up lengthways, slide it in through the zip, let it unroll inside and settle each of the four corners. A 60 cm side is roughly the width of a kitchen cabinet, which gives you an idea of how much room it takes up.
