This classic cushion cover is 30 cm high and 50 cm wide, a long rectangle. Across the front run rows of overlapping arcs, like waves following one another, in mustard, orange, grey and black.
Rather than being printed, the pattern was woven on a jacquard loom, so the coloured yarns themselves make the design, and up close each arc is built from fine lines of thread. On the back is plain, natural-coloured fabric with a zip along one edge. Made in India.
You get one cover, without a cushion pad. It takes a 30 × 50 cm inner cushion.
A lumbar cushion for the sofa
A cushion this size sits well in the corner of the sofa, or behind your back in an armchair while you read or watch television. On the bed it fits in front of the two pillows, so the bed still looks tidy during the day.
With earthy colours
Plain cushions in similar warm shades go well with it: mustard, brown or grey. If your sofa is light grey or beige, one of these covers is enough to give the room a strong patch of colour.
Its large square partner
A 60 × 60 cm cover with the same wave pattern is also available. In the product photo the two sit together, the large square one against the back of the sofa and the long one in front of it. If you like that look, order both.
What jacquard means
Jacquard weaving takes its name from Joseph Marie Jacquard, a French weaver who built a loom controlled by punched cards in the early 1800s. On it every lengthwise thread can be lifted separately, so even an intricate pattern can be woven into the cloth. The arcs of these waves are still made on the same principle.
Push the cushion pad in through the zip, far corners first. If you settle the corners into place inside, the cushion keeps neat, straight edges.
