Chinese feng shui good luck coins – ten emperors set, on red cord

A set of ten Chinese feng shui copper coins on a red cord, with 2.3 cm coins. A kind decoration piece for your home by the entrance door or window.

The tradition of the ten emperors' coins

This set of ten copper coins is one of the best-known pieces of the Chinese feng shui tradition. The shape of the coins is linked to the ten great rulers of China's Qing dynasty (1644-1912) – according to tradition these coins were symbols of the prosperity and good fortune of the time, and became cherished decorations in many family homes.

Why copper matters

In Chinese thinking copper belongs to the metal element among the five elements. Tradition holds that copper gathers and radiates energy more effectively than gold or silver, which is why it became the typical material of feng shui coins. The ten coins strung on the cord together form a decorative little protective set.

Where to place it at home

The classic spot for the coins is by the entrance door or near a window – many people hang them on the window latch or the entrance coat hook. Beside the desk, inside the wallet or near the cash drawer is also a common decorative choice. The red cord on its own is a symbolically strong colour in Chinese tradition.

Simple yet striking

The coins are 2.3 cm wide with a small square opening in the centre – this is the traditional Chinese coin shape. The red cord holds the ten coins together in a beautiful long strand finished with a knot or tassel. It is a kind gesture for someone with an interest in home feng shui or a love of Chinese culture.

Care and storage

Copper develops a patina over time – this is a lovely natural process that gives the coins a warmer tone. If you wish to keep them brighter, you may wipe them from time to time with a soft cloth. Please do not use strong cleaning products as they can remove the patina. Keep them away from damp rooms and children. They arrive wrapped in paper.
