Jalapeño chilipepper is the foundation of Mexican cuisine, one of the best-known chilis. The plant grows 75–80 cm tall. The stocky, blunt-tipped fruits are 6–8 cm long, 2–2.5 cm wide, ripening from dark green to bright red. Warmth- and sun-loving.
Growing
Sow in January–February. Transplant in May to a sunny, warm spot. Row spacing 70 cm, plant spacing 40 cm. Also grows well in pots.
Stuffed jalapeño poppers, nachos, salsa, hamburger topping. Pickled is also great — preserves jars of jalapeño for winter.
