About cedar
The smoke of cedar (Calocedrus decurrens) is soft yet deep, with a warmly woody aroma. Though its leaves are green, it burns well and easily, as they are looser than those of denser incense plants. Tradition has known cedar since ancient times as a plant of space-clearing and spiritual protection, and regards it as a companion of calm, quiet thoughts that helps tune in to inner stillness.
About the smudging tradition
A smudge bundle is an all-natural ceremonial incense, traditionally used in Native American cultures to cleanse spaces, people and objects. Clearing a space with plant smoke is an ancient practice that lives on in many parts of the world today. Once lit, the bundle releases a dense, fragrant smoke that gently moves through a room.
How to use it
Light the end of the bundle, then let it smoulder with gentle fanning and guide the smoke towards the space or object. Ventilate well afterwards. Always rest the smouldering bundle in a fireproof bowl or shell, and never leave it unattended.
