Carved Balance Wine Stand — Squirrel figure
The squirrel balance wine stand tends to catch the eye of every guest before they even reach for the glass. Playful yet functional, the figure leverages the combined mass of the wood and the angle of the bottle to create a point of equilibrium where the bottle appears to float in mid-air. You simply place the bottle and let go — physics does the rest.
Hand carved from a single piece of wood
Each stand is carved in Indonesia by craftspeople who shape it from a single block of wood. The squirrel's curved tail, rounded body and wood grain vary slightly between pieces, which means you receive a one-of-a-kind item. The natural tones are warm, honey-brown and softly mottled, with a finely sanded, oil- or wax-finished surface.
How to use it
Place the stand on a level, solid table, shelf or kitchen worktop, not on a wobbly tray or narrow-edged surface. Use a standard 0.7–0.75 litre wine bottle. Slide the bottle's neck into the carved hole, tilt it gently and release: within a few seconds the system finds its balance. Treat sparkling wines, 1 litre bottles and square-based bottles with extra care as their centre of gravity differs. It also works as a decorative holder for olive oil, balsamic vinegar or fruit spirits.
