Gecko balance wine stand — hand-carved from one piece of Suar wood
In Southeast Asian symbolism, the gecko represents luck, renewal and the protection of the home. Its long, horizontally extended body is an ideal shape for a balance-style wine stand: the figure naturally counterbalances the weight of a full wine bottle, holding it in what looks like mid-air suspension. Each piece is carved in Indonesia from a single block of Suar hardwood, and small variations between carvings are part of the handmade character.
- Material: carved from one piece of Suar wood
- Origin: Indonesia
- Figure: gecko
- Height: 6 cm
- Width: 4 cm
- Depth: 26 cm
- Weight: 0.2 kg
- Fits: standard 0.7–0.75 litre wine bottles
Using the stand
Place the stand on a flat, level surface. Slide the neck of a full 0.7–0.75 litre bottle into the hole at the end, supporting the base until the bottle settles. Release slowly — the counterweight holds the bottle in a tilted, floating-looking pose. Works only with standard bottles; sparkling, fruit-wine or litre bottles will unbalance.
Care
Dust with a soft dry cloth. Treat once or twice a year with a food-safe furniture oil or beeswax to maintain elasticity. Keep away from radiators, direct sunlight and humidity. Never submerge in water. Packaging does not include a wine bottle.
