Brown rice 500 g

Hungarian-grown wholegrain brown rice — hulled but with the bran layer retained, offering a high nutritional value and silky texture.

Brown rice is the healthier, ancient cousin of white rice — it differs in that only the outer, inedible hull is removed, while the nutrient-rich bran and germ stay on the grain. This is what gives it its characteristic brown colour, nutty taste and significantly higher fibre, vitamin and mineral content. The Hungarian-grown label guarantees that it comes from local growers rather than being imported.

Wholegrain brown rice is absorbed more slowly than its white counterpart, providing a more lasting feeling of fullness and a steadier blood sugar response. It is a beloved side-dish ingredient for athletes, dieters and anyone who enjoys mindful eating, and it also makes a perfect base for risotto, salads or stuffed vegetables.

Cooking tips for brown rice

The classic ratio: 1 cup of rice + 2 cups of water, brought to the boil with salt and then simmered covered on low heat for about 30 minutes. After cooking, do not stir — let it rest covered for 5–10 minutes so the grain reaches its perfect texture. The cooking time is much longer than that of white rice, thanks to the intact hull.

Try cooking it in coconut milk for curry, or cold in a salad with pumpkin and spinach. It also holds up well for storage when cooked, making it an excellent meal-prep ingredient.
