This brass incense burner is the work of Indian artisans, and its mango wood handle is there so you can safely carry the smouldering incense from room to room. The bowl and the lid are made of brass, the size is 17.5 × 8 cm and it weighs 288 g. It is suitable for white sage, palo santo, loose herbal incense blends and charcoal-tablet smudging alike.
How to prepare it for use
Fill the bowl about two-thirds full with fine sand or small pebbles, which act as a heat-insulating layer. Place the smouldering charcoal tablet or the lit incense on top of it. Once the incense is smoldering evenly, you can partly close the lid, so the smoke flows out only around the rim.
Home rituals and moods
Thanks to the handle, it works well when moving from room to room, for example for a smudging after moving in, at the change of seasons or before meditation. Brass takes on a soft patina over time, which gives the burner a beautiful, natural character. Because it is hand-made in India, small differences in shape may occur.
What to watch for safety-wise
Always place it on a heat-resistant, flat surface and keep it away from curtains, paper and other flammable objects. Never leave burning incense or a smouldering charcoal tablet unattended, and keep it at a safe distance from children and pets. The handle stays cool, but the brass bowl can become hot, so let it cool down after use.
Care and cleaning
Once cooled, carefully pour out the ash and sand, then wipe the bowl with a soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, as they may damage the surface; only use a brass cleaner if you want to restore the original shine, otherwise let the natural patina develop.
