Brass incense burner in black finish, 7.5 × 5.5 cm

Brass incense burner with black finish for charcoal, 7.5 × 5.5 cm. Hand-made in India, medium size, use on a heat-resistant pad.

A classic holder for charcoal incense

Charcoal-burnt incense, such as frankincense or myrrh, traditionally needs a separate holder that can handle the heat well. This brass dish is made for exactly that: it holds the charcoal steadily, and its open form lets the scent rise nicely. The black outer finish gives it a quiet look, so you can place it on any kind of furniture. The 7.5 × 5.5 centimetre size is ideal for small to medium amounts of granular or resin incense.

Brass with black finish

The base of the holder is brass, which is dense and therefore keeps the heat well and releases it slowly. The outer surface has a black finish, which keeps the look quiet so that it does not compete with other decorations on a shelf. Inside, the natural colour of the brass may remain visible, creating a nice contrast with the dark outside. Indian craftspeople make each piece, and every item carries small differences in its curve or in the texture of the finish.

How to light it correctly

Place a special charcoal tablet into the holder and light it on the edge with a match. Wait until the whole surface of the tablet is covered with a whitish layer. Then place the desired amount of frankincense or myrrh granules on top. You can enjoy a rich scent within just a few minutes, and the effect can last up to half an hour. Never leave a working incense burner unattended.

Safe placement

The burner becomes very hot during use, both inside and outside, so it is important to always place it on a heat-resistant pad. A small ceramic plate or a piece of tile is perfect for this purpose. Keep at least a hand-width of free space from curtains, books and any flammable material. Also keep children and pets away from it while it has not fully cooled down.

Cleaning and storage

Wait until the holder has fully cooled down before you touch it. Gently brush the remaining ash into a bin with a soft brush. Touch the black finish only with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and do not use scouring powder, as it can damage the surface. Store it in a dry place and wipe it occasionally on the outside as well. This way the burner will keep its appearance for many years and serve you well.
