Deep, matte black beads with an unusually long Earth history behind them: this shungite bracelet wears pieces of a stone more than two billion years old, strung on an elastic cord.
What is shungite?
Shungite is a black, coal-like stone, a special transitional form of carbon between amorphous carbon and graphite. It consists mainly of finely dispersed, globular carbon and also contains the rare carbon form known as fullerene. This piece is Type II shungite, with 50–90% carbon. It is a unique natural formation, found mainly in Karelia, Russia.
Tradition and history
Tradition knows shungite as a stone of protection, and many keep it close for a sense of calm and grounding. As a historical note, Tsar Peter the Great founded Russia's first spa at a site linked to the spring waters of Karelia, a region long famed for its water. These are traditional and historical references, not health claims. In modern times many are drawn to shungite for its ancient, natural origin, and choose it as a daily companion for its quiet, weighty presence.
Wearing and care
As a natural stone, each bead has a slightly different surface. Keep the bracelet away from water and cosmetics, and clean it with a soft cloth. The elastic cord fits most wrists.
