Red tiger eye is the warm, red-toned variety of tiger eye. Tiger eye is a golden-brown, silky quartz made special by its characteristic banded play of light (chatoyancy); the red tone comes from the iron oxides within. Its hardness is about 7 on the Mohs scale. Tradition regards tiger eye as a stone of courage and grounding; the red variety is especially linked to drive and vitality.
