A powerful stroke with little effort
This bodhran tipper is built from a bundle of thin rods around a thicker core. Thanks to this construction, it delivers a powerful, full stroke with very little effort, so your hand does not tire even during longer sessions. It is made in Germany, 24 cm long and weighs just 20 grams.
A round sound with an emphasised low end
The tipper produces a round, warm sound that highlights the low range - exactly what makes a bodhran or frame drum sound so pleasantly full. If you have been playing with a plain wooden beater so far, this tipper will give you a softer, deeper foundation tone that sits beautifully under singing and melody instruments.
Protects the drum head, stays firmly in your hand
The rounded ends of the rods protect the drum head, so you can safely use it on a more valuable instrument as well. The textured, rubberised handle will not slip even in a sweaty hand - especially welcome during longer sessions or rehearsals.
Not just for bodhran
Although designed primarily for the bodhran, it is well worth trying on frame drums and other hand drums whenever you want a stronger yet still warm voice compared to playing with bare hands. Its low weight means it fits comfortably in the pocket of an instrument bag.
Grip and technique
Hold the tipper loosely near its middle - the pendulum-like motion from the wrist creates the characteristic flowing Irish rhythm. Practise slowly at first, as a tight grip stiffens the movement.
