A soft blue opal, whose shades arc from pale sky blue to deeper ocean blue.
What blue opal is
Blue opal is the blue-toned form of hydrated silica (opal), ranging from pale sky blue to a full, ocean-like blue. Its hardness is around 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale; polished, it has a soft, pearly-glassy sheen. Its colour shifts gently with the angle of the light.
In tradition
Tradition links blue opal with the throat chakra and knows it as a stone of clear communication, self-expression and putting thoughts into words. Many also see it as a support for creativity and inspiration – a stone of free, flowing expression.
A natural product – each piece is unique
Tumbled (polished, rounded) stones are made from natural mineral, so the size, shade and pattern vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photo. A typical stone is about 1.5–3.5 cm, with a smooth surface that sits easily in the hand.
Use and care
Many hold it in the palm during meditation or quiet reflection; others keep it in a favourite corner, on the desk or in a bag. The polished stone can be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth.
