The stone of black onyx
Black onyx is the deep-black variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz), which when polished smooth takes on an elegant, full sheen; its Mohs hardness is around 7. In crystal lore it is known as a stone of centering, strength and endurance, and tradition links it with grounding and with steadying oneself through difficult times.
The tumbled form
Tumbled stones gain their smooth, rounded surface through long polishing, which makes them sit pleasantly in the palm – a favourite as a pocket stone and meditation piece. This selection is mixed A/B quality: as a natural mineral, each piece can differ in shade, pattern and clarity, and every stone is unique. Pieces typically range between 0.5 and 2.5 cm.
