What is this tea set for?
Gong fu cha is one of the best-known rituals in Chinese tea culture. The idea is to brew the same leaves repeatedly, for short times (15–45 seconds) in a small pot — so every infusion brings out a different facet of the tea. Gong fu brewing tips
Rinse pot and cups with hot water first — this is often called "blessing the pot". Fill the pot about a third full with loose-leaf tea (for oolong or pu-erh). Pour the first infusion (8–10 seconds) away — this is the "awakening" step that opens the leaves and rinses away dust. From the second infusion onward, the tea is ready to drink. Start around 15–20 seconds and add 5–10 seconds for each subsequent round. A good oolong will give 6–8 excellent rounds. Use water at 90–95 °C for oolong, close to boiling for pu-erh.
Storage and cleaning
Traditionally, gong fu sets are rinsed only with hot water — no detergent — so the glaze gradually builds a patina from tea tannins. If you're not comfortable with that, use lightly soapy water, but avoid harsh detergents and scouring pads. Air-dry with the lid open. Store on a shelf, protected from dust. Skip the dishwasher — the pieces are small and may tip or knock together.
