According to the breeder, Bernita F1 is a hybrid pepper and one of the earliest-ripening pepper varieties: the first fruits can be picked as early as the start of summer. You can grow it in a polytunnel or in open ground, so it is suitable even if you do not have a polytunnel. The packet contains 10 seeds.
Elongated fruits that turn from white to red
The fruits have an elongated blocky shape. They are white at first and turn red as they ripen. They are uniform in quality, with an average weight of 130–170 g.
Sowing, planting out and feeding
Sow the seeds for raising seedlings in February–March, and plant the seedlings out in April–May. Picking runs from July to September. Bernita likes nutrient-rich, free-draining soil, where water does not stand around the roots. A potassium-rich feed is recommended while the plants are growing, so choose a liquid feed or fertiliser that is high in potassium.
Fresh, in salads or on the grill
The peppers are good for eating fresh and for salads and sandwiches, and you can also use them for cooking and grilling.
