What a bagua mirror is and what it is for
The bagua mirror is a traditional feng shui accessory, used according to Chinese life philosophy for the outer protection of a home or business. In the centre of the 13 x 13 centimetre wooden frame there is a small mirror, surrounded by the eight bagua symbols. The 118 gram piece can be easily hung above your front door or above a window.
The role of the concave mirror
The concave version has the special quality of being able to absorb and neutralise energies arriving from outside that are felt as less favourable. According to feng shui tradition this form is helpful when sharp corners, tall columns or other tension-creating shapes stand opposite the building. For you it is a discreet, yet traditional solution.
Where to place the bagua mirror
The bagua mirror should always be placed outside – feng shui does not recommend it for indoor use. The most common location is above the front door or above a larger window facing the street. Place it in a relatively protected spot, where it is not directly exposed to the weather, but does not feel disturbing to you or to your visitors.
What to keep in mind from a feng shui perspective
The bagua mirror is not a decorative object: according to feng shui tradition it should be used only when actual sha chi (unfavourable energy) is arriving towards the house. If you are uncertain, it is worth consulting an experienced feng shui adviser about the exact placement and orientation. By tradition this type of mirror does not belong in the bedroom or living room as a decoration.
Finish and storage
The frame is made of wood, manufactured in China, and arrives to you in bubble wrap so that it remains intact during transport. Use a firm screw or nail for hanging; the 118 gram weight is easily held by almost any traditional wall surface. If you wish to take it down for a longer time, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and store it in its original packaging.
