The ancient Chinese coin, reimagined
This backflow incense holder is shaped around the classic round-with-square-hole coin – a symbol of prosperity and flowing energy in East Asian tradition. Measuring 10.5 × 7 × 6 cm and weighing 0.175 kg, the piece is sized for a desk, console table or meditation nook, with a surface pattern that guides the cooled smoke in an even curtain.
Lighting a backflow cone
Place a backflow cone in the central top opening, light the tip, wait for the ember to stabilise, then blow out the flame. The cone will burn for around 20–30 minutes while its cooled smoke pours slowly down over the coin's surface. Only backflow cones produce this effect – regular cones emit upward smoke and will not create the waterfall.
Placement and care
Set on a flat, draft-free surface so the smoke can settle evenly. In feng shui, placing symbols of abundance diagonally opposite the entrance is considered especially favourable. Wipe residue with a damp soft cloth after use, avoid submerging or scrubbing, and store in a dry, dust-free place between sessions.
