This ceramic incense burner is shaped as an open lotus flower and works on the backflow principle. So you will see the smoke not rising but slowly cascading down between the petals - as if a quiet, scented waterfall were standing on your shelf. How to achieve the waterfall effect
For the waterfall effect you need a special backflow-marked incense cone. Place the cone in the recess on top of the holder, light the tip, wait until the ember has caught well, then let the smoke flow down along the lotus petals. Regular stick incense will not produce this effect.
