Palo santo, the "holy wood", is a scent of South American origin, here delivered in Indian Ayurvedic backflow cones. The box contains 10 cones, each about 1 × 3 centimetres. What palo santo is and why it is special
Palo santo is a tree that grows in the tropical regions of South America. By tradition, only pieces that have fallen naturally and matured are used for burning. That is why its scent has so many layers: you sense the wood itself, a citrussy freshness and a slightly sweet, resinous note. This Indian Ayurvedic cone brings that scent profile to a modern backflow burner.
For backflow burners only
The cone has a vertical downward channel inside. The warmed, dense smoke is heavier than the surrounding air and flows downwards – and on a backflow burner with a deep central well, it cascades down the side. On a regular incense holder the effect is lost, because the smoke would simply rise. Before purchase, check whether you already own a backflow burner at home.
How to use it
Place the cone on a heat-resistant surface, light the tip, wait 1–2 minutes until it burns with a steady ember, then blow out the flame. Set the cone on top of the backflow burner so the opening at its base aligns with the burner's opening. The smoke will start flowing downwards shortly after. One cone burns for about 15 minutes, which is enough for one room.
When to use it at home
Many people choose the scent of palo santo for evening meditation, for the wind-down at the end of the day, or as a frame for a deeper conversation. The citrus note makes it a touch livelier than sandalwood, yet less herbal than white sage. It works well after a long day, before reading, or with a quiet shared dinner. Safety and storage
Never leave a burning cone unattended. Place the burner on a heat-resistant base and keep it away from children and pets. Store the opened box in a dry, cool place. Ventilate during and after use, especially if a family member is asthmatic or has sensitive airways.
