Vanadinite is one of the most sought-after minerals among collectors: its fiery orange-red hexagonal crystals immediately catch the eye, and it is hard to believe that this is a natural material. Its deep, intense colour and geometrically perfect crystal forms make vanadinite truly one of the jewels of the mineral world. This lot contains approximately 20 natural vanadinite specimens from Morocco.
What is Vanadinite?
Vanadinite is a vanadate mineral with the formula Pb5(VO4)3Cl. It is one of Morocco's most characteristic mineral exports, particularly from the Mibladen and Ahouli mining areas. It crystallises in the hexagonal crystal system, forming characteristic prismatic, barrel-shaped or tabular crystals. Its lustre is resinous to sub-adamantine. It most commonly appears in red, orange-red and yellowish hues.
For Collectors and Educators
Vanadinite is one of the most visually striking minerals and is excellent for educational use: it illustrates the hexagonal crystal system, the properties of lead-bearing minerals, and the geological treasures of Moroccan mining regions. It is extremely popular among collectors because it offers visually impressive pieces with high aesthetic value at a relatively accessible price point. In spiritual traditions it is also regarded as a symbol of creativity and life energy.
