A vivid blue or green apatite, whose clear, saturated colour draws the eye at first glance.
What apatite is
Apatite is a calcium-phosphate mineral that occurs in often vivid shades from blue to green. Its hardness is 5 on the Mohs scale, so it is moderately hard; polished, it has a glassy sheen, translucent to transparent. It is one of the best-known members of the phosphate mineral family.
In tradition
Tradition knows apatite as a stone of clear sight and of bringing things about – many hold that it helps see one's goals clearly and recognise what holds one back. Its blue shades are often linked with self-expression and the throat chakra.
A natural product – each piece is unique
Tumbled (polished, rounded) stones are made from natural mineral, so the size, shade and pattern vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photo. A typical stone is about 1.5–3.5 cm, with a smooth surface that sits easily in the hand.
Use and care
Many hold it in the palm during meditation or quiet reflection; others keep it in a favourite corner, on the desk or in a bag. The polished stone can be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth.
The meanings and properties described rest on tradition and on the experiences of those who work with stones; they are not scientific facts and do not replace medical advice.
