Amethyst is the violet variety of quartz, its colour created by iron and natural irradiation; its Mohs hardness is around 7, with notable sources in Brazil, Uruguay and Zambia. Care and good to know
This is a durable mineral, yet it is worth protecting from knocks and scratches. Rinse under lukewarm water and pat dry; prolonged strong sunlight can fade the violet over time, so keep it away from it.
