Amazonite Mineral Specimen on a Black Metal Stand

Polished blue-green amazonite on a black metal stand, about 13 × 4.5 cm. A mineral specimen from India with a fine, unique pattern.

A polished piece of amazonite on a black metal stand. The stone is blue-green, with a fine pattern across its smooth, glossy surface. With the stand it measures about 13 × 4.5 cm. It comes from India.

Named after the Amazon

Amazonite takes its name from the Amazon River in South America, although no deposits are known along the river. It was already made into beads and amulets in ancient Egypt. Like moonstone, it belongs to the feldspar family. Its colour can be a pale green or a turquoise blue-green.

Polish brings out the colour

Polishing brings out the colour and the markings, and the glossy surface reflects the light. Set it near a lamp or a window and it catches the light, while up close you can follow its fine pattern. Many amazonites have whitish streaks running through them, which create the markings. The black stand is plain, keeps attention on the stone, and fits even on a narrow windowsill.

Also called the stone of hope

Crystal tradition calls it the stone of hope and truth. It makes a good present for someone starting a mineral collection, or for anyone who likes to see a handsome stone on the desk while they work. The blue-green stands out well on a white or grey desk, next to the computer.

Colour and pattern vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photo. You receive one specimen with its stand. Wipe the polished surface with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from quartz and other hard stones. Amazonite has a hardness of about 6 and quartz 7, so quartz can scratch it.
