Where the Aleppo soap tradition comes from
The city of Aleppo has been an ancient centre of soap-making on the eastern Mediterranean coast, where local masters have boiled traditional soap from olive and laurel oil for centuries. This liquid version brings the millennia-old tradition into your modern washing machine: an olive-and-laurel oil formula gently enriched with chamomile water. The liquid has a translucent yellow-green hue, lathers modestly yet cleanses deeply.
How you can use it at home
It suits cotton underwear, bedding, baby clothes, linen tablecloths, towels and delicate T-shirts. Thanks to the calming chamomile note we especially recommend it for households where someone reacts to heavily perfumed detergents or has recurring contact eczema. It can also be used safely on cotton baby blankets.
Dosage in the washing machine
For a normally soiled five-kilogram load thirty to forty millilitres in the detergent drawer is enough. For heavier soiling increase to fifty, and add half a cap of white vinegar to the rinse drawer – this softens the textile and also helps protect against limescale build-up. In soft water areas you can reduce the dose by ten millilitres.
For hand-washing fine fabrics
Pour two tablespoons into a basin of lukewarm water, soak the delicate garment for ten to fifteen minutes and rinse in cold. It is gentle on wool and silk too, as it is made without harsh laundry boosters or optical brighteners. Embroidered items can also be washed with it, provided they are not put in the tumble dryer afterwards.
Storage and environment
Keep it in a cool dark place, tightly closed, and use within eighteen months of opening. The bottle is refillable and any remainder can safely go down the drain, as the formula breaks down readily in nature and does not burden wastewater treatment plants as phosphate detergents do.
