Fructose / Fruit Sugar 1000 g – a naturally occurring sweetener
Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar found in fruits, some vegetables, and honey. In crystalline form it is a popular alternative to standard table sugar (sucrose), offering a cleaner sweetness and a different metabolic profile. The 1000 g pack is ideal for regular kitchen use.
Key properties
- Higher sweetening power: fructose is approximately 1.2–1.5 times sweeter than sucrose, so you can use 20–30% less to achieve the same level of sweetness
- Lower glycaemic index: fructose has a GI of approximately 20, compared to ~65 for white sugar, meaning it causes a slower and more gradual rise in blood glucose
- Crystalline form: easy to measure and dissolves well in both hot and cold liquids
- Neutral flavour: no caramel or molasses notes – purely sweet
Important note for health-conscious users
Although fructose has a lower GI than sucrose, this does not mean it can be consumed without limits. People with diabetes should consult their doctor before introducing fructose into their diet. As with all sweeteners, moderation is recommended as part of a balanced diet.
How to use it
- Baking – use 20–30% less than the sugar quantity in your recipe
- Jams and preserves – excellent for setting and preserving
- Hot and cold drinks – dissolves easily
- Fruit salads – creates a beautiful glossy coating on fruit
- Sports nutrition – the distinct metabolic pathway of fructose is valued in endurance sports
Store in a cool, dry, airtight container. Fructose is sensitive to moisture, so always reseal after use. Shelf life is approximately 2–3 years under correct storage conditions.
